چکیده

Great progress has been made during the latter half of this century in the care of patients with iridocyclitis associated with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. The most major advance was the development of corticosteroids for systemic and ophthalmic use just after the mid-way point of this century, and the second major advance came through the admonitions of Jacobs and Spalter of New York and of Kanski in London for the routine screening biomicroscopic examination of youngsters with the pauciarticular form of JRA, screening for occult active intraocular inflammation, since the eyes of such patients commonly appear normal to the casual observer, and since the patients are often young and do not notice or express to parents small changes which are slowly developing as a result of active inflammation.

Antinuclear antibody studies in juvenile chronic arthritis.

This study of children with chronic arthritis confirms that patients at greatest risk for chronic iridocyclitis have a young age of onset and positive antinuclear antibodies (ANA). Children who are ANA negative have a low risk of iridocyclitis. When it occurs it is at a significantly older age. No child developing juvenile chronic arthritis over 9, even with positive ANA, had chronic iritis. Th...

Autoantibody profile in juvenile chronic arthritis.

Patients with juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA) may be subdivided into a minority, who carry IgM rheumatoid factor and have erosive polyarthritis resembling adult rheumatoid arthritis, and the majority (90%), who are seronegative by conventional means. Between 30 and 60% of patients with JCA have positive antinuclear antibodies (ANAs) according to the choice of substrate for indirect immunofluor...

Long-term outcome among patients with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) is a chronic inflammatory disease primarily affecting the joints but also extra articular tissue. Several studies, which have addressed these issues, are reviewed in this article. In addition, functional, educational and employment status o...

Rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile arthritis, iridocyclitis and the Epstein-Barr virus.

In order to examine the relation of Epstein-Barry virus (EBV) infection to chronic arthritis in children antibodies to EB virus capsid antigen (EBVCA) and rheumatoid arthritis nuclear antigen (RANA) were analysed in sera from 133 patients classified as juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA) or pauciarticular, polyarticular, or systemic juvenile chronic arthritis. Except for an increased frequency ...

Monarticular juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Seven out of 22 children with monarticular juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (MJRA) developed involvement of other joints between six months and three and a half years from the onset. In the other 15 patients the disease has remained monarticular for between one and 16 years (mean six years). Chronic iridocyclitis was seen in three of the five boys, two with antinuclear antibodies. Children with MJ...
